Death By Criminal Violence

During the whole hundred years of its existence only one member of this force has died as a result of criminal violence. This was P.C. Hine who was murdered at Fenny Compton, where he was stationed, in 1886. On the night of 15th February that year, the constable left home for duty and was never seen alive again. Some days later his body was found in the canal at Fenny Compton and it was thought he had been murdered by a gang of poachers. Despite extensive enquiries, however, the murderers were never traced.
